The coil coating line in Velvary has been in operation for 50 years, and it has coated over 1 million tonnes of steel and aluminium coils over this time. When it was first established, it was the only coil coating line in the country, and this is still true today.
From the very beginning, our predecessors in Velvary tried to keep up with the times, applying for membership in the Brussels-based European Coil Coating Association (ECCA) back in 1976. This gave them access to information about international testing standards, which were later replaced by EN standards.
After the privatisation of national enterprise KOVOHUTĚ Velvary by COMAX in 1993, a paint mixing plant was built to speed up the handling of customer demand for coating; this plant was renovated and expanded with a new laboratory with test chambers after 2005, when the company was taken over by strategic investor METAL TRADE BOHEMIA.
Since 2008, the coating line has been modernised during virtually every winter shutdown - investments over the past 15 years, including the buildings and the new centre for cutting coils, have exceeded half a billion CZK.
